If you enjoy watching movies, we have started a listing of movies that have some sort of connection to Hungary either being filmed there, the language is heard or the characters are Hungarian. We know this isn’t a complete list so please check it out and let me know what is missing. Please visit Hungarian Related Films

Zoltan Kocsondy of Michigan has many years of experience raising and showing Puli dogs so we asked him to write an article for us about this special Hungarian breed. Thank you, Zoltan, for a great introduction to these smart pups and great photos! Check out the article here

Hungarian Oak

Have you been to wineries that use Hungarian Oak as a part of their winemaking process? We finally found a wine maker who could explain why Hungarian grown oak is used by a number of wineries in the USA. Read the article here

Hungarian Soups & Desserts

Thank you for submitting your soup recipes. We have added them to the website. You can check them out here and if you were intending to submit one but forgot, there is still time! Be sure to click on the numbers at the bottom of the first recipe and you will see there are several recipes listed in this category. The beautiful thing about soups is they are economical and so nice and warm on a cold winter’s day. Now that we live in New York we are enjoying more soups!

If you have a family favorite recipe or two in the dessert category and you are willing to share, please send them to with Dessert in the subject line. If you have a special cook’s note or a special story that goes along with your recipe, we invite you to share that as well. Feel free to add a picture of your finished product as well as your name. We look forward to your submissions and we will add them to the website as soon as possible!

My First Dobos Torta

Have you ever been afraid to do something? I was afraid of making a dobos torta. I think I saw too many amazing bakery photos and I knew I would be unable to replicate them. In early January I committed to making a dobos torta by the end of the month. Time was running out, so on January 31st I conquered my fear. I made sure I had all the ingredients, I studied several recipes and I went into the kitchen. Here is what I did. Why on earth did I wait so long?

I have a list of Hungarian dishes I have never made but love and  2015 is the year for me to get busy in the kitchen! I learned a lot by making the dobos torta. The most important thing I learned was that I could do it. If you have been meaning to get in the kitchen and try some family recipes, let this be your year too! Find someone who loves to experiment and have them join you because it is more fun to do it with a friend!
